Valerian. Actions: Sedative, hypnotic, anti-spasmodic, hypotensive, carminative. One of the most useful relaxing nervines available. Reduces tension, anxiety, over-excitability, and hysterical states. Aids insomnia. As anti-spasmodic will help cramps and pain of periods. As a pain reliever is most indicated where that pain is associated with tension. Helps migraine and rheumatic pain. Use with Passionflower for insomnia. 1 cup boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoons for 10-15 min. drink when needed. Infuse in thermos best. Take thermos to bedroom and have a few sips if sleep evades you. Don't overdo it. Gently relax. A little honey improves the taste
Motherwort. Actions: Sedative, emmenogogue, anti-spasmodic, cardiac tonic. Suitable menstrual and uterine conditions, heart and circulation treatments. Valuable in delayed or suppressed menstruation, menopausal changes, excellent tonic for the heart, strengthening without straining. For over-rapid heart beat, and all heart conditions associated with anxiety and tension. Put a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoons and infuse in thermos 10-15 min. 3 times a day
Golden Rod. Actions: anti-catarrhal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, diaphoretic, carminative, diuretic. Best herb for upper respiratory catarrh. Also for flatulent dyspepsia, cystitis urethritis, promotes healing of wounds. Gargle for laryngitis and pharyngitis. Use with echinacea for upper respiratory catarrh. Infusion 2-3 teasp. into boiling water infuse 10-15 min 3 times a day
Elcampane Root. Actions: expectorant, anti-tussive, diaphoretic, stomachic, anti-bacterial. Specific for irritating bronchial coughs, bronchitis or emphysema, asthma and bronchial asthma. Combines well with white horehound, coltsfoot, pleurisy root and yarrow for respiratory problems. Infusion, pour cup cold water onto shredded root. Let stand 8-10 hours, heat and take 3 times a day.
Dandelion, rich in potassium, Actions: powerful diuretic, cholagogue, anti-rheumatic, laxative, tonic. For inflamation/congestion of gall-bladder, muscular rheumatism, for water retention due to heart problems. Decoction 2-3 teasp into cup cold water, then simmer 10-15 min, take 3 times a day
Celery Seed. Actions: Anti-rheumatic, diuretic, carminative, sedative. Useful for rheumatism, arthritis and gout; rheumatoid arthritis, with associated mental depression, urinary antiseptic; works well with Dandelion. Infuse by pouring cup boiling water onto freshly crushed seeds, infuse 10-15 min. Take 3 times day.
